GOOD NEWS FOR SOME AREA VETERANS. THE UNITED STATES VETERANS EDUCATION INSTITUTE WILL OPEN AT ALTOONA’S FORMER BON SECOUR HOSPITAL. PARTNERING WITH LOCAL BUSINESSES AND CLARION UNIVERSITY, VETERANS WILL BE HOUSED AND OFFERED BENEFITS WHILE BEING TAUGHT EVERYTHING FROM MATH TO TECHNOLOGY. THE SALE OF THE PROPERTY IS EXPECTED TO BE COMPLETED JANUARY 30TH, AND DEMOLITION AND MAJOR CONSTRUCTION WILL FOLLOW. AND THE DOROTHY DAY CENTER OF ST. FRANCIS UNIVERSITY RECEIVED MORE THAN 800 POUNDS OF FOOD DURING A NON-PERISHABLE FOOD COLLECTION SPEARHEADED BY STATE REPRESENTATIVES FRANK BURNS AND GARY HALUSKA. DONATION BOXES WERE SET UP AROUND THE 72ND AND 73RD LEGISLATIVE DISTRICTS IN NOVEMBER AND THEN HANDED OVER TO THE CENTER RIGHT BEFORE THE HOLIDAYS.
