A 22 year old Army Senior Combat Medic from Pine Grove Mills, Centre County, lost his legs from th knee down while trying to save fellow soldiers Tuesday in Afghanistan.
Officials say State College High School graduate Adam Hartswick was responding to a roadside attack when se stepped on an I-E-D.
He remained conscious and was able to tell a platoon leader how to treat him and saved his own life.
Hartswick also lost both index fingers and part of one thumb.
HIs hometown has set-up up a benefit fund at Clearfield Bank and Trust.
