SANDUSKY SCANDAL

DR. RODNEY ERICKSON BECAME PENN STATE’S PRESIDENT IN NOVEMBER…AND NOW HE HAS BEEN SUBPOENAED TO TESTIFY BEFORE THE STATE GRAND JURY INVESTIGATING CHILD SEX ALLEGATIONS AGAINST JERRY SANDUSKY. UNIVERSITY SPOKESPERSON LISA POWERS SAYS ERICKSON’S ATTORNEY IS DISCUSSING WITH THE ATTORNEY GENERAL’S OFFICE VARIOUS ASPECTS OF THE SUBPOENA, INCLUDING THE ACTUAL DATE OF TESTIMONY. POWERS SAYS “PRESIDENT ERICKSON INTENDS TO FULLY COOPERATE AND ANSWER ALL QUESTIONS TRUTHFULLY.” A NUMBER OF OTHER EMPLOYEES HAVE ALSO BEEN SUBPOENAED.

CORBETT SAYS THE ARTICLE WAS NOT ONLY FACTUALLY WRONG, BUT NOT EVEN CLOSE TO THE FACTS. CORBETT SAYS HE IS RELUCTANT TO ADDRESS SPECIFICS BECAUSE OF THE GAG ORDER IMPOSED BY THE JUDGE HANDLING THE JERRY SANDUSKY CASE.

SEAMUS JOHNSTON THINKS HE AND HIS PARTNER ARE BEING TARGETED OVER SEVERAL LAWSUITS HE FILED AGAINST THE UNIVERSITY AND HE SAYS IT'S "HUGELY UNFAIR" THAT HE'S EVEN UNDER INVESTIGATION AND HOPES IT WILL BE OVER AFTER HIS TESTIMONY. JOHNSTON WAS EXPELLED IN JANUARY FOR USING THE MEN'S LOCKER ROOM BECAUSE HE WAS BORN FEMALE. 

CONVICTED KILLER WANTS NEW TRIAL

BLAIR COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY RICH CONSIGLIO AND ALTOONA DEFENSE ATTORNEY TOM DICKEY WILL ARGUE IN HARRISBURG TODAY BEFORE A 9-JUDGE PANEL OF THE STATE SUPERIOR COURT. PAUL AARON ROSS OF HOLLIDAYSBURG IS SERVING LIFE IN PRISON FOR THE 2004 RAPE AND MURDER OF 26-YEAR-OLD TINA MILLER WHOSE BODY WAS FOUND IN CANOE CREEK STATE PARK. DICKEY CLAIMS HE WASN’T GIVEN ENOUGH TIME TO PREPARE AND THE JURY SHOULD NOT HAVE HEARD TESTIMONY FROM ROSS’ FORMER GIRLFRIENDS ABOUT HIS PRIOR BAD ACTS. IF THE APPELLATE COURT ORDERS A NEW TRIAL FOR ROSS, CONSIGLIO SAYS HE WILL SEEK THE DEATH PENALTY AGAIN.

ATTEMPTED MURDER TRIAL BEGINS

TESTIMONY IS SCHEDULED TO BEGIN TODAY IN THE CENTRE COUNTY ATTEMPTED MURDER TRIAL OF 39 YEAR OLD RANDALL BROOKS OF HOWARD. HE’S CHARGED WITH SHOOTING HIS EX-GIRLFRIEND’S BOYFRIEND IN A DRIVE-BY SHOOTING IN DECEMBER 2009, THEN TRYING TO INFLUENCE A JUROR WHO WAS TO HEAR HIS CASE. BROOKS WILL REPRESENT HIMSELF AT TRIAL.

ALTOONA HOUSE DAMAGED

FIRE DAMAGED A HOME MONDAY EVENING AT 222 FIFTH AVENUE IN ALTOONA…AND THE HEAT ALSO MELTED THE SIDING NEXT DOOR. FIRE CHIEF RANDY SANTONE SAYS THE BLAZE MAY HAVE BEGUN IN A SHED IN THE BACKYARD. NO ONE WAS INJURED.

THE BLAIR COUNTY TEA PARTY WILL HOST ITS 4TH ANNUAL TAX DAY RALLY BEGINNING AT 5:30 AT CANAL BASIN PARK IN HOLLIDAYSBURG. THE EVENT IS FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC. CONFIRMED SPEAKERS INCLUDE STATE SENATOR JOHN EICHELBERGER… U.S. SENATE CANDIDATES DAVID CHRISTIAN AND MARC SCARINGI… AND STATE ASSEMBLY CANDIDATE JOHN MCGINNIS. ALL CANDIDATES IN CONTESTED RACES HAVE BEEN INVITED.

RE-FORMING NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH?

POLICE IN BLAIR COUNTY ARE HOPING TO REVIVE THE NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH PROGRAM…AND A MEETING IS SCHEDULED TONIGHT AT 6:30 AT PENN STATE ALTOONA’S DEVORRIS CENTER. OPERATION OUR TOWN IS WORKING WITH THE SHERIFF’S OFFICE, THE DISTRICT ATTORNEY, AND THE ATTORNEY GENERAL’S OFFICE TO REVITALIZE THE PROGRAM IN AN EFFORT TO KEEP THE STREETS SAFE.

LADY LIONS COACH STAYING

PENN STATE WOMEN’S BASKETBALL HEAD COACH AND REIGNING BIG TEN COACH OF THE YEAR COQUESE WASHINGTON WILL STAY IN HAPPY VALLEY. DURING A NEWS CONFERENCE MONDAY, WASHINGTON SAID SHE IS NOT TAKING A COACHING JOB AT MICHIGAN FOLLOWING AN INTERVIEW LAST WEEK.
