SHE IS EXPECTED TO BE AT A FUNDRAISER AT THE BLAIR COUNTY CONVENTION CENTER ON MONDAY. LOCAL REPUBLICAN PARTY OFFICIALS SAY THE GUEST LIST AND COST OF ATTENDING THE EVENT ARE STILL BEING WORKED OUT. SANDUSKY SCANDAL

TUESDAY, JERRY SANDUSKY WAS SENTENCED TO 30 TO 60 YEARS IN A STATE PRISON AND NOW CENTRE COUNTY AUTHORITIES SAY HE’S ONCE AGAIN BEEN PLACED ON SUICIDE WATCH IN SOLITARY CONFINEMENT AT THE COUNTY LOCK-UP. COUNTY ADMINISTRATOR TIM BOYDE SAYS THE COURT COSTS, SECURITY, AND OTHER EXPENSES CONNECTED TO SANDUSKY’S CASE TOTALTED 95-THOUSAND DOLLARS BEFORE TUESDAY’S SENTENCING HEARING.

PENNSYLVANIA'S PUBLIC EMPLOYEE PENSION SYSTEM HAS MOVED TO REVOKE JERRY SANDUSKY'S 59-THOUSAND DOLLAR ANNUAL PENSION. THE STATE EMPLOYEES' RETIREMENT SYSTEM NOTIFIED SANDUSKY BY LETTER WEDNESDAY THAT HIS CRIMES TRIGGERED FORFEITURE OF HIS PENSION BECAUSE SOME OF THEM HAPPENED WHILE HE WAS A PUBLIC EMPLOYEE. SANDUSKY'S LAWYER PREVIOUSLY SAID HE WOULD FIGHT ANY ATTEMPT TO REVOKE THE PENSION.

AT A NON-JURY TRIAL YESTERDAY, CAMBRIA COUNTY JUDGE NORM KRUMENACKER FOUND 23-YEAR-OLD LEE KEARNS OF JOHNS¬TOWN GUILTY ON 2 FELONY COUNTS OF RAPING A 5-YEAR-OLD GIRL EARLY IN 2011 AT A STONYCREEK TOWNSHIP HOME HE WAS VISITING. KEARNS…WHO HAS MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES…FACES 2 MANDATORY 10-YEAR PRISON TERMS. AS HE WAS LED OUT OF THE COURTROOM, HE STUCK HIS TONGUE OUT AT THE ASSISTANT D-A AND TOLD A POLICE OFFICER – QUOTE -- “I’D DO IT AGAIN.”

NEW TRIAL FOR CONVICTED KILLER?

THE STATE SUPERIOR COURT YESTERDAY ORDERED A NEW TRIAL FOR 40 YEAR OLD PAUL AARON ROSS OF HOLLIDAYSBURG WHO IS SERVING A LIFE SENTENCE FOR THE 2004 MURDER OF TINA MILLER AT CANOE CREEK STATE PARK. THE ALTOONA MIRROR REPORTS THE 5 TO 4 DECISION SAYS ROSS’ COURT-APPOINTED ATTORNEY TOM DICKEY DID NOT HAVE ENOUGH TIME TO PREPARE HIS DEFENSE AND THE PROSECUTION WAS IMPROPERLY ALLOWED TO INTRODUCE SO-CALLED “PRIOR BAD ACTS” TESTIMONY AGAINST ROSS FROM HIS FORMER GIRLFRIENDS. THE JUDGES SAY BLAIR COUNTY JUDGE JOLENE KOPRIVA MANIFESTLY ABUSED HER DISCRETION. ASSISTANT D-A WAGE KAGARISE SAYS THE DECISION MAY BE APPEALED AND IF ROSS DOES GET A NEW TRIAL, DISTRICT ATTORNEY RICH CONSIGLIO WILL SEEK THE DEATH PENALTY.

LAWYER FACES DRUG CHARGES

THE PRELIMINARY HEARING FOR FORMER CENTRE COUNTY ASSISTANT DISTRICT ATTORNEY STEVE SLOANE WAS SCHEDULED YESTERDAY, BUT IT HAS BEEN PUSHED BACK UNTIL NOVEMBER 7TH. AUTHORITIES SAY HE RECEIVED MARIJUANA AND PAINKILLERS FROM CALIFORNIA WHILE WORKING AT THE STATE COLLEGE LAW FIRM OF MASORTI & SULLIVAN LAST YEAR…THEN HE SOLD THEM. THE PACKAGES HAD BEEN MAILED BY A MAN NAMED STEVEN ICE, A FRIEND OF SLOANE'S FROM THE AIR FORCE. SLOANE WAS FIRED WHEN THE INVESTIGATION BEGAN.

ALTOONA’S MONEY WOES

ALTOONA FINANCE DIRECTOR OMAR STROHM TELLS THE ALTOONA MIRROR THE CITY’S OPERATING DEFICIT TOTALS ABOUT 2-POINT-5 MILLION DOLLARS FOR NEXT YEAR…WITH LESS THAN HALF THAT MUCH IN THE RESERVED FUND BALANCE TO COVER THE SHORTFALL. THE CITY WAS ACCEPTED INTO THE STATE’S DISTRESSED MUNICIPALITIES PROGRAM EARLIER THIS YEAR. THE TEAM WORKING ON THE RECOVERY PLAN WILL PRESENT IT TO CITY OFFICIALS NOVEMBER 13TH. SOME LEADERS SAY THEY ARE CONCERNED THEY WON’T HAVE TIME TO REVISE IT BEFORE A BUDGET MUST BE ADOPTED.
