THE ALTOONA AREA SCHOOL DISTRICT STAGED AN ACTIVE SHOOTER DRILL YESTERDAY…AND SUCCESSFULLY TESTED THE EMERGENCY NOTIFICATION SYSTEM THAT CONTACTS PARENTS IN CASE OF A MAJOR PROBLEM. BLAIR COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT DIRECTOR DAN BOYLES TELLS THE ALTOONA MIRROR THE DRILL ALSO REVEALED A SERIOUS COMMUNICATION GAP AMONG RESPONDERS RESPONSIBLE FOR CONTROLLING TRAFFIC AS STUDENTS ESCAPE THE BUILDING.
OFFICIALS WILL NOW WORK TO FIGURE OUT A SOLUTION. ALSO, AN UNEXPECTED POWER SURGE AFFECTED VARIOUS PARTS OF THE CITY, BUT AUTHORITIES LEARNED THAT THE DISTRICT’S SECURITY CAMERAS WILL STILL FUNCTION IN CASE OF A POWER FAILURE.

NOW, NCAA OFFICIALS SAY THE NITTANY LIONS WERE NOT FORCED TO RETURN THE TROPHIES, BUT PENN STATE AND EACH BOWL OPERATOR MUST DECIDE WHAT IS APPROPRIATE BECAUSE THE B-C-S GAMES ARE NOT ADMINISTERED BY THE NCAA. NO WORD YET WHAT PENN STATE WILL DO.

THE FBI HAS JUST RELEASED ITS 868 PAGE FILE ON JOE PATERNO AND IT MAKES NO MENTION OF JERRY SANDUSKY. MISSING STUDENT IS SAFE

21 YEAR OLD PENN STATE STUDENT JESSE MCMILLEN WAS REPORTED MISSING NEARLY 2 WEEKS AGO, BUT HE WAS LOCATED TUESDAY EVENING BY POLICE IN SPRINGFIELD MISSOURI. AUTHORITIES SAY MCMILLEN WAS STAYING WITH A RESIDENT. LAST WEEK, HE HAD BEEN SPOTTED IN EBENSBURG AND IN WEST VIRGINIA.

FATHER WILL FACE DEATH PENALTY

THE INDIANA COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY IS SEEKING THE DEATH PENALTY AGAINST 41 YEAR OLD LEWIS BEATTY WHO IS ACCUSED OF KILLING HIS ESTRANGED WIFE AND THEIR 2 DAUGHTERS ON JUNE 1ST. POLICE SAY BEATTY SLIT THE THROATS OF HIS YOUNG GIRLS AND THEN HIS ESTRANGED WIFE IN THEIR SOUTH MAHONING TOWNSHIP HOME. HE ALSO SET THE HOUSE ON FIRE AND KILLED SEVERAL PETS.

ARREST IN TODDLER’S DEATH

STATE POLICE SAY THEY ARE CHARGING AN INDIANA COUNTY MAN WITH CRIMINAL HOMICIDE FOR THE DEATH OF A 16 MONTH OLD SALTSBURG BOY. 28 YEAR OLD SHAWN ANDERSON-HOLMES OF INDIANA ALLEGEDLY CAUSED THE DEATH OF THE TODDLER AND TROOPERS PLAN TO RELEASE MORE DETAILS IN A NEWS CONFERENCE TODAY.

MAN WANTED CHILD’S FEET IN HIS FACE

A BIZARRE STORY INVOLVING A FORMER TEACHER AT A MEYERSDALE SCHOOL AND CURRENT MEMBER OF THE CONEMAUGH TOWNSHIP AREA SCHOOL BOARD.
POLICE SAY 56 YEAR OLD BRIAN EPPLEY FORCED A CHILD TO TAKE OFF THEIR SHOES AND PUT THEIR FEET IN HIS FACE APPROXIMATELY 75 TIMES SINCE 2008. EPPLEY IS ALSO A DEACON IN HIS CHURCH. HE’S NOW FREE ON BAIL, CHARGED WITH UNLAWFUL RESTRAINT AND CORRUPTION OF MINORS. POLICE ARE URGING ANY OTHER POTENTIAL VICTIMS TO COME FORWARD.

CEMETERY VANDALISM

SOMEONE HAS BEEN CAUSING DAMAGE AT THE FAIRVIEW CEMETERY IN ALTOONA FOR THE PAST FEW MONTHS. WTAJ REPORTS THAT HUNDREDS OF GRAVESTONES HAVE BEEN TIPPED OVER AND THE VANDALS HAVE ALSO BEEN BREAKING INTO THE GARAGE AND DESTROYING PROPERTY. THE CEMETERY'S PART-TIME CARETAKER SAYS HE'S CALLED THE POLICE AT LEAST 10 TIMES THIS YEAR, INCLUDING WEDNESDAY MORNING, BUT THEY HAVEN’T DONE ANYTHING. NO COMMENT FROM THE POLICE DEPARTMENT.
