A DUNCANSVILLE MAN DROWNED ON MONDAY EVENING AT RAYSTOWN LAKE. 23-YEAR-OLD DUSTIN WEYANDT WAS ATTEMPTING TO SWIM AROUND 200 YARDS ACROSS A COVE IN THE AREA OF TROUGH CREEK STATE PARK..BUT BEGAN TO STRUGGLE NEARLY 100 YARDS FROM SHORE. WITNESSES SAID WEYANDT WENT UNDER WATER TWICE AND THEN DID NOT RE-SURFACE. MEMBERS OF THE MARKLESBURG FIRE DEPARTMENT USED AN UNMANNED SUBMARINE TO LOCATE WEYANDT IN ABOUT 24-FEET OF WATER. HIS BODY WAS THEN RECOVERED BY DIVERS. THE MARKLESBURG FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS ASSISTED BY MEMBERS OF 8 OTHER DIVE TEAMS, FIRE DEPARTMENTS AND EMERGENCY PERSONNEL.

ALTOONA POLICE HAVE MADE AN ARREST IN CONNECTION WITH SUNDAY’S ARMED ROBBERY OF THE PUFF ‘N SNUFF STORE IN THE JUNIATA SECTION OF THE CITY. 21-YEAR-OLD ANDREW KEPNER OF ALTOONA WAS TAKEN INTO CUSTODY YESTERDAY AFTERNOON. HE’LL BE ARRAIGNED ON ROBBERY AND OTHER RELATED CHARGES.

STATE POLICE IN HUNTINGDON ARE INVESTIGATING A CRASH INVOLVING A VEHICLE STOLEN FROM BLAIR COUNTY. THE 2003 CHEVROLET S-10 WAS WRECKED ON KELLER ROAD NEAR SHAFFERSVILLE ROAD IN MORRIS TOWNSHIP, HUNTINGDON COUNTY ON THURSDAY, JUNE 12TH. THE DRIVER FLED THE SCENE. PENN STATE ATHLETIC DIRECTOR DAVID JOYNER IS RESIGNING. THE SCHOOL ANNOUNCED THAT HE HAS REQUESTED AN AUGUST 1ST DATE TO RETIRE. JOYNER TOOK OVER IN THE MIDST OF THE JERRY SANDUSKY SEX-ABUSE CASE. HE WAS ON THE PENN STATE BOARD OF TRUSTEES WHEN HE TOOK OVER THE DEPARTMENT AS ACTING ATHLETIC DIRECTOR IN NOVEMBER 2011. JOYNER BECAME FULL-TIME A-D IN JANUARY 2013

THE PENNSYLVANIA SENATE MAJORITY LEADER IS PREDICTING A TAX INCREASE. DOMINIC PILEGGI MADE THE COMMENT YESTERDAY, SAYING IT WILL BE HARD TO PASS A BUDGET WITHOUT ONE. PILEGGI ALSO SAID THAT REPUBLICANS NEED TO DISCUSS POSSIBLE TAXES ON NATURAL GAS DRILLING AND TOBACCO SALES, WHICH ARE FAVORED BY DEMOCRATS. THE NEW FISCAL YEAR BEGINS ON JULY 1ST.

A BILL THAT WOULD ALLOW PENNSYLVANIA BED-AND-BREAKFAST OWNERS TO GIVE OUT COMPLIMENTARY WINE TO PAYING GUESTS IS ON ITS WAY TO THE SENATE.
