HOSPITAL MERGER SHOULD BE COMPLETED TODAY –

THE MERGER OF ALTOONA REGIONAL HEALTH SYSTEM AND THE UNIVERSITY OF PITTSBURGH MEDICAL CENTER IS SCHEDULED TO BE COMPLETED TODAY. THE PROCESS BEGAN ALMOST 2 YEARS AGO AND OFFICIALS WITH THE LOCAL HOSPITAL DECIDED THAT UPMC OFFERED THE BEST OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE HEALTH CARE SYSTEM, ITS EMPLOYEES, AND ITS COMMUNITY. ALTOONA REGIONAL HEALTH SYSTEM’S NEW NAME WILL BE UPMC ALTOONA. UPMC HAS MADE A CAPITAL COMMITMENT OF 250 MILLION DOLLARS OVER 10 YEARS FOR THE ENHANCEMENT OF HEALTH CARE FACILITIES AND SERVICES AT ALTOONA REGIONAL AND ITS AFFILIATES.

MISSING MAN FOUND DEAD –

A BEECH CREEK MAN WHO WAS SWEPT AWAY BY FLOODWATERS ON THURSDAY WAS FOUND DEAD BY THREE KAYAKERS SATURDAY AFTERNOON IN BALD EAGLE CREEK IN CLINTON COUNTY. THE CENTRE DAILY TIMES REPORTS THAT  86-YEAR-OLD CLAUDE RUPERT WAS TRYING TO SAVE AN ATV WHEN HE WAS PULLED INTO THE SWOLLEN LITTLE SUGAR RUN IN BEECH CREEK TOWNSHIP.WATER RESCUE CREWS FROM SEVERAL COUNTIES SEARCHED THE MUDDY WATERS THURSDAY AND FRIDAY LOOKING FOR THE MAN. THE STORM WHOSE FLOODING SWEPT AWAY RUPERT DROPPED 5 TO 7 INCHES OF RAIN IN AN HOUR.

CRASH KILLS BEDFORD COUNTY MAN -

A BEDFORD COUNTY MAN DIED ON SUNDAY IN A MOTORCYCLE ACCIDENT. POLICE SAY 47-YEAR-OLD ROBIN VINEYARD OF EVERETT LOST CONTROL OF HIS MOTORCYCLE ON SPRING STREET IN EVERETT AND CRASHED INTO A HOUSE. HE WAS PRONOUNCED DEAD AT THE SCENE.

STATE BUDGET APPROVED –

MONEY STOLEN FROM GIRL SCOUTS –

A 31-YEAR-OLD CLEARFIELD COUNTY WOMAN HAS BEEN CHARGED WITH STEALING NEARLY $5200 FROM THE GIRL SCOUTS. STATE POLICE IN CLEARFIELD HAVE NOT IDENTIFIED THE WOMAN, WHIO LIVES IN MADERA. THEY SAY SHE WROTE  CHECKS TO HERSELF, AS WELL AS MAKING PERSONAL A-T-M WITHDRAWELS FROM THE GIRL SCOUTS’ BANK ACCOUNT FROM OCTOBER OF 2012 TO MAY 1ST OF THIS YEAR. THE INVESTIGATION IS ONGOING.

SUPREME COURT SEAT FILLED –

THE VACANT SEAT ON PENNSYLVANIA'S SUPREME COURT IS ABOUT TO BE FILLED.  THE STATE SENATE VOTED SUNDAY TO CONFIRM THE NOMINATION OF SUPERIOR COURT PRESIDENT JUDGE CORREALE STEVENS.  STEVENS WILL SERVE THROUGH JANUARY 2016 AND IS EXPECTED TO BE SWORN INTO OFFICE IN JULY. THE VACANT SEAT WAS CREATED BY JOAN ORIE MELVIN’S RESIGNATION FOLLOWING HER CONVICTION ON CHARGES SHE USED TAXPAYER-FUNDED STAFF FOR CAMPAIGN WORK.

PA TURNPIKE PREPARES FOR HOLIDAY TRAFFIC -

 IN PREPARATION FOR THE HEAVY TRAFFIC OVER THE JULY 4TH HOLIDAY, THE PENNSYLVANIA TURNPIKE MAINTENANCE AND CONSTRUCTION CREWS WILL MAKE ALL LANES IN EACH DIRECTION AVAILABLE FOR TRAFFIC UNTIL THE MORNING OF JULY 8TH, BARRING ANY EMERGENCIES. MORE THAN 2.5 MILLION VEHICLES ARE EXPECTED ON THE HIGHWAY OVER THE HOLIDAY. EVERYONE IS URGED TO STAY ALERT AND BEWARE OF AGGRESSIVE DRIVERS.

IN BLAIR COUNTY….

TODAY, THE CONTRACTOR BEGINS WORK ON THE ROUTE 164/CLOVER CREEK BRIDGE REPLACEMENT PROJECT IN NORTH WOODBURY TOWNSHIP. TRAFFIC WILL BE SHIFTED TO A TEMPORARY ROADWAY ADJACENT TO ROUTE 164 AND THOSE USING FREDRICKSBURG ROAD WILL FOLLOW A POINT-6 MILE DETOUR. THIS PROJECT IS SCHEDULED TO BE COMPLETED BY MID-OCTOBER.

A BRIDGE CREW WILL BEGIN REPLACING A BRIDGE ON ROUTE 3010 THAT SPANS POPLAR RUN IN JUNIATA TOWNSHIP, BLAIR COUNTY. TRAFFIC WILL BE CONTROLLED BY A TEMPORARY RUN-AROUND.ALL WORK WILL BE COMPLETED BY THE END OF AUGUST

CENTRE COUNTY  

FOLKS TRAVELING PAST A PORTION OF PENN STATE’S MAIN CAMPUS COULD EXPERIENCE SHORT DELAYS STARTING THIS MONTH.

BLAST CREWS WILL TEMPORARILY STOP TRAFFIC ON COLLEGE AVENUE FOR BUILDING DEMOLITION AS THEY CONTINUE WORK ON THE NEW HEALTH AND HUMAN DEVELOPMENTAL BUILDING. TRAFFIC WILL NOT BE STOPPED FOR MORE THAN A MINUTE AT A TIME.

 

IN CENTRE COUNTY, FERGUSON TOWNSHIP RESIDENTS ARE BEING ASKED TO AVOID RESEARCH DRIVE AND WHITEHALL ROAD TO CATO PARK. A SINKHOLE OPENED LATE LAST WEEK NEAR CATA HEADQUARTERS, FORCING OFFICIALS TO CLOSE THE ROAD. TWO-WAY TRAFFIC HAS BEEN RESTORED ON WHITEHALL ROAD. ROADWORK DETOURS ARE LIFTED TEMPORARILY.
