PEDESTRIAN KILLED IN CRASH IDENTIFIED -

 

POLICE HAVE RELEASED THE IDENTITY OF A 91-YEAR-OLD WOMAN WHO WAS STRUCK AND KILLED WHILE CROSSING THE STREET ON SATURDAY MORNING IN ALTOONA. CECELIA “SIS” HOLLERN OF ALTOONA WAS HIT BY A PICK-UP TRUCK WHILE CROSSING 17TH STREET NEAR GRANT AVENUE. POLICE SAY THEY HAVEN’T YET DECIDED IF CHARGES WILL BE FILED AGAINST THE DRIVER, WHO BRAKED AND TRIED TO SWERVE OUT OF THE WOMAN’S PATH.  THE 44-YEAR-OLD MAN SHOWED NO SIGNS OF USING DRUGS OR ALCOHOL.

 


PRELIMINARY HEARING IN ALTOONA -

 

FORMER CHOICES NIGHTCLUB BOUNCER BRANDON MIDDERS OF ALTOONA IS DUE AT A PRELIMINARY HEARING TODAY. HE’S CHARGED WITH 6 FELONIES INCLUDING CRIMINAL CONSPIRACY, AGGRAVATED ASSAULT, AND HINDERING APPREHENSION. MIDDERS ADMITS HE DROVE HUGO BAEZ TO HUNTINGDON COUNTY AFTER BAEZ ALLEGEDLY SHOT AND KILLED WILLIE SOLOMON INSIDE THE CLUB HALLOWEEN NIGHT. A SHOTGUN AND A SEMIAUTOMATIC HANDGUN WERE FOUND IN MIDDER’S CAR, BOTH LOADED. MIDDERS IS JAILED ON 100-THOUSAND DOLLARS BOND.

 


Cambria county drug suspects in court today -

 

in Cambria County court today, preliminary hearings are scheduled for 4 drug suspects. LAST WEEK, AUTHORITIES SEIZED 20-THOUSAND DOLLARS IN CASH, 2 POUND OF MARIJUANA, 150 GRAMS OF BATH SALTS, AND GUNS FROM THE HOME OF 55 YEAR OLD PATRICK HEALY ON CHURCH STREET IN GALLITZIN. ALSO ARRESTED WERE 40 YEAR OLD DENISE HOFER OF PATTON, 34 YEAR OLD FRANK KRATZER OF ALTOONA, AND 29 YEAR OLD RYAN WENDT OF DUNCANSVILLE. DISTRICT ATTORNEY KELLY CALLIHAN SAYS THE BATH SALTS HAD A STREET VALUE OF 15-THOUSAND DOLLARS AND THE POT 9-THOUSAND.ALL 4 ARE IN THE COUNTY PRISON.

PENELEC AND THE UTILITY WORKERS OF AMERICA, LOCAL 180 ARE SCHEDULED TO MEET TODAY IN PITTSBURGH. ABOUT 140 LINE, SUBSTATION, METER AND CLERK EMPLOYEES HAVE BEEN LOCKED OUT AFTER THE UNION REJECTED A FINAL CONTRACT OFFER FROM FIRST ENERGY, PENELEC’S PARENT COMPANY. THE EMPLOYEES WORK IN THE ALTOONA, HUNTINGDON, LEWISTOWN AND SHIPPENSBURG AREAS. BOTH SIDES SAY THEY ARE HOPEFUL THAT TODAY’S MEETING WILL BE PRODUCTIVE.



POLICE INVESTIGATE “RAMMING” INCIDENT –

 

STATE POLICE IN HOLLIDAYSBURG ARE INVESTIGATING AN INCIDENT EARLY YESTERDAY MORNING IN TAYLOR TOWNSHIP, BLAIR COUNTY.

THEY SAY 24-YEAR-OLD HEATHER GRIFFIN OF YORK WAS STOPPED AT A STOP SIGN AT THE INTERSECTION OF DUMBHUNDRED AND CROSS COVE ROAD WHEN A RED PONTIAC GRAND AM DRIVEN BY A FEMALE KNOWN TO HER RAMMED THE REAR OF HER CAR THREE TIMES. THE WOMAN THEN FLED EAST ON CROSS COVE ROAD. GRIFFIN’S MOTHER AND AND 7-YEAR-OLD DAUGHTER WERE ALSO IN HER CAR. CHARGES ARE PENDING.

GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS SAY THE HEALTHCARE.GOV WEBSITE IS NOW READY TO HANDLE A LAST-MINUTE RUSH OF CONSUMERS. IF YOU SIMPLY WANT TO AVOID PAYING A FEE FOR NOT HAVING HEALTH INSURANCE, THAT SIGNUP DEADLINE HAS BEEN EXTENDED UNTIL MARCH 31ST.

PENN STATE COMMENCEMENT –

 

MORE THAN 5-THOUSAND PENN STATE STUDENTS RECEIVED DIPLOMAS ON SATURDAY DURING FALL COMMENCEMENT CEREMONIES. UNIVERSITY PRESIDENT RODNEY ERICKSON SPOKE AT THE UNDERGRADUATE COMMENCEMENT AT THE BRYCE JORDAN CENTER.

ERICKSON PLANS TO RETIRE AT THE END OF JUNE AFTER 37 YEARS WITH THE UNIVERSITY. HIS REPLACEMENT HAS NOT YET BEEN NAMED.
