NASTY WEATHER

THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE ARE STILL WITHOUT POWER AFTER HEAVY THUNDERSTORMS HIT THE REGION THURSDAY, BRINGING DOWN MANY TREES AND POWERLINES. THERE WERE REPORTS OF FLASH FLOODING, TOO.  IN THE WESTMONT SECTION OF JOHNSTOWN, A HUGE TREE CRASHED INTO A HOUSE ON PARKVILLE ROAD CAUSING EXTENSIVE DAMAGE. LIGHTNING STRUCK HOUSE IN ADAMS TOWNSHIP, CAMBRIA COUNTY, SPARKING A FIRE AND CAUSING A BRICK CHIMNEY TO EXPLODE. MEANWHILE, FIRE DESTROYED A BARN IN CLEARFIELD COUNTY, KILLING SEVERAL GOATS AND CHICKENS. THE BLAZE MAY HAVE BEEN CAUSED BY A LIGHTNING STRIKE.

AN ELECTRICAL FIRE CAUSED MINOR DAMAGE TO THE EVANGELICAL INDEPENDENT METHODIST CHURCH AT 29TH STREET AND OAK AVENUE IN ALTOONA ABOUT 10:30 LAST NIGHT. FIREFIGHTERS SAY THE BLAZE STARTED ON THE FRONT PORCH AND THEY WERE ON THE SCENE FOR ABOUT 40 MINUTES.

TORNADOES WERE SPOTTED IN BOTH NORTHWESTERN AND NORTHEASTERN PENNSYLVANIA.

SANDUSKY SCANDAL

IN ONE, HE ASKS THE MAN IF HE WANTS TO GO TO A PENN STATE FOOTBALL GAME AND HE ALSO SAYS HE LOVES THE MAN. ACCORDING TO THE STATE ATTORNEY GENERAL’S OFFICE, VICTIM 8 STILL REMAINS UNIDENTIFIED.

JERRY SANDUSKY’S WIFE, DOTTIE, TOLD A CENTRE DAILY TIMES REPORTER YESTERDAY THAT SHE STILL LOVES HER HUSBAND AND – QUOTE – “HE’S NOT WHO THEY SAY HE IS.” MRS. SANDUSKY SAYS SHE NEVER SAW HIM DO ANYTHING INAPPROPRIATE WITH BOYS HE BROUGHT INTO THEIR HOME.

PENNSYLVANIA AUDITOR GENERAL JACK WAGNER SAYS THE GOVERNOR AND PENN STATE’S PRESIDENT SHOULDN’T BE SERVING AS VOTING MEMBERS OF THE UNIVERSITY’S BOARD OF TRUSTEES. WAGNER ALSO SAYS THE LEGISLATURE NEEDS TO ACT BECAUSE IT’S IMPOSSIBLE FOR THE TRUSTEES TO BE OBJECTIVE IN RE-STRUCTURING THEIR ORGANIZATION. IN ADDITION, HE RECOMMENDS THE STATE’S OPEN RECORDS LAW BE AMENDED SO THAT IT COVERS PENN STATE AND 3 OTHER SO-CALLED STATE-RELATED UNIVERSITIES.

WOMAN CHARGED WITH SERIAL CHILD RAPE

39 YEAR OLD TABATHA PARTSCH OF CLAYSBURG IS IN THE BLAIR COUNTY PRISON ON 150-THOUSAND DOLLARS BOND, ACCUSED OF SERIAL CHILD MOLESTATION. THE ALTOONA MIRROR REPORTS THAT PARTSCH IS CHARGED WITH RAPING AND ASSAULTING A NUMBER OF PRE-TEENS AND YOUNG TEENAGERS AT HER HOME OVER THE PAST YEAR…RECORDING SOME OF THE INCIDENTS ON HER CELLPHONE. POLICE SAY SHE EVEN FORCED ONE TEEN TO ASSAULT A 5-YEAR OLD GIRL WHILE SHE WATCHED. A PRELIMINARY HEARING IS SCHEDULED THURSDAY.

BOY’S BODY FOUND

STATE POLICE ARE INVESTIGATING THE DEATH OF A 12 YEAR OLD BOY FOUND SHOT YESTERDAY IN JACKSON TOWNSHIP, HUNTINGDON COUNTY. DISTRICT ATTORNEY GEORGE ZANIC SAYS THE BOY WAS NOT FROM THIS AREA. NO OTHER DETAILS HAVE BEEN RELEASED.

STAND-OFF ENDS PEACEFULLY

NO SHOTS WERE FIRED AND NO INJURIES REPORTED AFTER A TENSE STAND-OFF YESTERDAY AT AN APARTMENT COMPLEX NEAR VAIRO BOULEVARD IN PATTON TOWNSHIP, OUTSIDE OF STATE COLLEGE. POLICE SAY A 20 YEAR OLD MAN WITH POTENTIAL ACCESS TO WEAPONS EXPERIENCED AN EMOTIONAL CRISIS AND THEY EVACUATED THE IMMEDIATE AREA. ABOUT 6 HOURS AFTER THE STAND-OFF BEGAN, THE MAN CLIMBED OUT OF A WINDOW AND SURRENDERED WITHOUT INCIDENT. HE IS NOW BEING EVALUATED AND A WOMAN IS BEING INTERVIEWED TO DETERMINE IF SHE WAS BEING HELD AGAINST HER WILL.
