YESTERDAY’S SNOW AND WIND CAUSED A NUMBER OF ACCIDENTS IN THE AREA AND BITTERLY COLD TEMPERATURES ARE HANGING AROUND TODAY ALONG WITH DANGEROUS WIND CHILLS. HIGHS ARE ONLY EXPECTED IN THE LOW TEENS TODAY AND TOMORROW.

CRASH VICTIMS IDENTIFIED

BEDFORD COUNTY AUTHORITIES HAVE RELEASED DETAILS ABOUT A FATAL CRASH THAT HAPPENED SUNDAY AFTERNOON ON I-99 IN KIMMEL TOWNSHIP. 82 YEAR OLD ORVILLE ICKES OF IMLER WAS SPEEDING AND DRIVING ERRATICALLY IN THE SOUTHBOUND LANES WHEN HE LOST CONTROL, STRUCK AN EMBANKMENT, AND ROLLED END-OVER-END. ICKES WAS EJECTED FROM THE VEHICLE.

CENTRE COUNTY AUTHORITIES HAVE RELEASED THE NAME OF THE MAN KILLED IN A CRASH SUNDAY AFTERNOON. 53 YEAR OLD RANDALL ASKEY OF HOWARD LOST CONTROL OF HIS CAR AND SLAMMED INTO AN ON-COMING VEHICLE ALONG MARSH CREEK ROAD IN LIBERTY TOWNSHIP.HIS PASSENGER AND 2 PEOPLE IN THE OTHER CAR HAD MINOR INJURIES.

HEARING TODAY FOR ACCUSED KILLER

A PRELIMINARY HEARING IS SCHEDULED TODAY IN CAMBRIA COUNTY COURT FOR 50 YEAR OLD GREGORY CONZO OF SUMMERHILL TOWNSHIP WHO IS CHARGED WITH CRIMINAL HOMICIDE. POLICE SAY HE BEAT MICHAEL PCOLA WITH A BASEBALL BAT NOVEMBER 5TH AND PCOLA DIED 2 DAYS LATER. CONZO REMAINS IN THE COUNTY PRISON.

FORMER COP’S TRIAL TO BEGIN

TESTIMONY IS SCHEDULED TO BEGIN TODAY FOR THE TRIAL OF FORMER ALTOONA POLICE OFFICER DUANE EICHENLAUB. HE IS ACCUSED OF BEATING 2 MEN AT PELLEGRINE’S LOUNGE IN MAY OF 2010…THEN CONSPIRING TO COVER UP THE INCIDENT. FORMER COP ERIC KRINER PREVIOUSLY PLEADED GUILTY TO A REDUCED CHARGE OF SIMPLE ASSAULT.

PRISONS CLOSING

THE STATE SENATE JUDICIARY COMMITTEE HOLDS A HEARING TODAY TO DISCUSS HOW THE DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS DECIDED TO CLOSE THE STATE PRISONS AT CRESSON AND GREENSBURG. THE SHUTDOWNS INVOLVE ABOUT 24-HUNDRED INMATES…AND MANY ARE BEING MOVED TO THE NEWLY BUILT BENNER STATE PRISON NEAR STATE COLLEGE. MANY EMPLOYEES WILL ALSO TRANSFER. TESTIFYING AT TODAY’S HEARING ARE CRESSON TOWNSHIP SUPERVISOR GARY BRADLEY…CRESSON TOWNSHIP MUNICIPAL AUTHORITY TREASURER MICHAEL VARGO…AND CRESSON BORO COUNCIL PRESIDENT JOSEPH PUPO.

SANDUSKY SCANDAL

TODAY MARKS THE ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF THE DEATH OF PENN STATE FOOTBALL COACH JOE PATERNO AND A CANDLELIGHT VIGIL WILL BE HELD AT 7PM IN FRONT OF THE INSPIRATION MURAL IN DOWNTOWN STATE COLLEGE. THE VIGIL WAS ORGANIZED BY A GROUP OF PEOPLE CALLED INSPIRATION WAY AND THEY PLAN TO LIGHT 409 CANDLES TO MARK EACH OF JOE PATERNO'S VICTORIES, BEFORE 111 WERE TAKEN AWAY AS PART OF THE NCAA SANCTIONS.THE PENN STATE BOARD OF TRUSTEES SAID FRIDAY THERE ARE NO CURRENT PLANS TO HONOR JOE-PA, BUT THEY PLAN TO DO SOMETHING EVENTUALLY.

6 MONTHS AFTER JOE PATERNO DIED, HIS STATUE OUTSIDE BEAVER STADIUM WAS TAKEN DOWN. IT’S NOW BEEN EXACTLY ONE YEAR SINCE HIS DEATH AND THE CENTRE DAILY TIMES REPORTS THAT THE LOCATION OF THE 900-POUND BRONZE STATUE REMAINS UNKNOWN. PENN STATE SPOKESWOMAN LISA POWERS WILL ONLY SAY “THE STATUE IS IN A SAFE, UNDISCLOSED LOCATION.”

PENN STATE OFFICIALS HAVE ANNOUNCED THAT DAVID JOYNER WILL STAY ON AS ATHLETIC DIRECTOR UNTIL PRESIDENT RODNEY ERICKSON STEPS DOWN IN JUNE OF NEXT YEAR. ERICKSON RELEASED THIS STATEMENT SAYING – QUOTE – “I HAVE CONFIDENCE IN DR. JOYNER AND WANT HIM TO CONTINUE AS PART OF MY LEADERSHIP TEAM WHILE I AM PRESIDENT." JOYNER HAS ACTING ATHLETIC DIRECTOR SINCE NOVEMBER 2011.
