SANDUSKY IN BELLEFONTE

JERRY SANDUSKY AND HIS DEFENSE TEAM WILL BE AT THE CENTRE COUNTY COURTHOUSE THIS MORNING TO BEGIN HIS APPEAL PROCESS. AN EVIDENTIARY HEARING WILL BE HELD AT 9:30. THE LAWYERS CLAIM THEY DID NOT HAVE ENOUGH TIME TO PREPARE FOR TRIAL. JUDGE JOHN CLELAND HAS BANNED REPORTERS FROM HAVING CELL PHONES AND OTHER ELECTRONIC DEVICES INSIDE THE COURTROOM.

KILLER HAD OTHER WEAPONS

THE ALTOONA MIRROR REPORTS THAT STATE POLICE AT HOLLIDAYSBURG HAVE FILED A SEARCH WARRANT STATING THAT THEY FOUND 4 OTHER GUNS, AMMUNITION, KNIVES, AND A STUN GUN AT THE HOME OF JEFFREY MICHAEL WHO GUNNED DOWN 3 PEOPLE ON DECEMBER 21ST IN THE GEESEYTOWN AREA. MICHAEL WAS KILLED BY STATE TROOPERS AFTER HE FIRED ON THEM AND CRASHED INTO A CRUISER. HIS GIRLFRIEND AND OTHER ACQUAINTANCES TOLD POLICE MICHAEL WAS DISTRAUGHT AND THOUGHT THE WORLD WAS COMING TO AN END.

MURDER TRIAL CONTINUES

PHILADELPHIA COUSINS MARQUIS NEAL AND ANTHONY HARVEY ARE ON TRIAL IN JOHNSTOWN FOR THE OCTOBER 2011 SHOOTING DEATH OF 21 YEAR OLD J-QUAN LEWIS OUTSIDE THE OAKHURST HOMES. PROSECUTORS SAY NEAL KILLED LEWIS AND HARVEY  DROVE THE GET-AWAY VAN. YESTERDAY, JURORS WERE BUSED TO THE SCENE OF THE CRIME.

PREACHER ARRESTED

WTAJ REPORTS THAT THE PASTOR OF CEDAR CREST BAPTIST CHURCH IN MOUNT UNION, HUNTINGDON COUNTY, IS CHARGED WITH AGGRAVATED INDECENT ASSAULT OF AN MINOR, CORRUPTION OF A MINOR, AND INDECENT ASSAULT OF A PERSON UNDER THE AGE OF 16. 56 YEAR OLD JEFFREY WINSTEAD REPORTEDLY ADMITTED TO THE IMPROPER RELATIONSHIP WITH THE GIRL STARTING WHEN SHE WAS 14. WINSTEAD IS MARRIED WITH 4 CHILDREN AND HAD BEEN AT THE CHURCH FOR 24 YEARS. HE RESIGNED SHORTLY AFTER THANKSGIVING.

JEWELRY STORE ROBBED AT GUNPOINT

STATE COLLEGE POLICE SAY 3 BLACK MEN ROBBED THE KRANICH'S JEWELRY STORE DOWNTOWN YESTERDAY MORNING. SUSPECT 1 IS ABOUT 5-FOOT-8…WITH LIGHTER SKIN…A ROUND FACE…A FULL STUBBLY BEARD…AND HE’S MISSING A TOOTH. HE WAS ARMED WITH A LONG BARREL SILVER HANDGUN. SUSPECT 2 IS ALSO 5-8" AND HAD A DEEP VOICE. HE HAD A SILVER REVOLVER AND A BLACK REEBOK BAG. SUSPECT 3 IS DARK-SKINNED, APPROXIMATELY 6 FEET TALL WITH A LARGE BUILD. HE TOOK MOST OF THE MERCHANDISE IN A LARGE, BLUE OR BLACK DUFFLE BAG WITH A MERCEDES-TYPE LOGO ON THE SIDE. ANYONE WITH INFORMATION SHOULD CALL POLICE AT 234-71-50.

S-C-I BENNER OPENING

CENTRE COUNTY ALREADY HAS THE LOWEST UNEMPLOYMENT RATE IN THE STATE. CORRECTIONS SECRETARY JOHN WETZEL PREDICTS CLOSING S-C-I CRESSON AND S-C-I GREENSBURG WILL ULTIMATELY SAVE TAXPAYERS 35 MILLION DOLLARS PER YEAR.

FLU OUTBREAK

THE FLU IS ON THE RISE IN PENNSYLVANIA. THE STATE HEALTH DEPARTMENT IS REPORTING THERE WERE 42-HUNDED-56 NEW CASES LAST WEEK, WHICH IS MORE THAN THE 3-THOUSAND-20 CASES REPORTED FOR THE ENTIRE FLU SEASON LAST YEAR. FREE FLU SHOTS WILL BE AVAILABLE THROUGH SATURDAY AT THE PENNSYLVANIA FARM SHOW IN HARRISBURG.

TEEN INJURED

18 YEAR OLD LUCAS WOOMER OF TYRONE SUFFERED MODERATE INJURIES WHEN HE GOT DISTRACTED AND WALKED INTO THE PATH OF A CAR ALONG CLAY AVENUE IN SNYDER TOWNSHIP YESTERDAY AFTERNOON. STATE POLICE SAY THE DRIVER WAS GOING AT A SLOW SPEED IN AN ACTIVE SCHOOL ZONE. WOOMER WAS TAKEN TO ALTOONA REGIONAL TRAUMA CENTER.

ANOTHER JUDGE CANDIDATE

A 3RD PERSON IS NOW RUNNING FOR THE BLAIR COUNTY JUDGESHIP THAT’S OPENING UP WHEN JUDGE HIRAM CARPENTER RETIRES. TYRONE MAGISTERIAL DISTRICT JUDGE FRED MILLER ANNOUNCED HIS CANDIDACY YESTERDAY. BLAIR COUNTY CHIEF DEPUTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY WADE KAGARISE AND ALTOONA ATTORNEY DAVE ANDREWS MADE THEIR ANNOUNCEMENTS MONDAY.
