The Central PA Civil War Round Table will meet on Tuesday evening, March 5, for a dinner meeting at the Mt. Nittany United Methodist Church, 1500 E. Branch Road, in State College.
There will be a spaghetti and meatball dinner with a salad, relish tray, garlic bread, dessert, and beverages beginning at 6:00 p.m. The program will follow sometime after 7:00 p.m. To enjoy the spaghetti dinner, reservations are necessary by February 26 and can be made by contacting Vice President, Dale Benner, at 814-355-5184 or firstname.lastname@example.org. The cost of the dinner is $11.00 per person.
The speaker for the evening will be Don Ernsberger who will speak on “Breakthrough at Fredericksburg – The Assault of the Pennsylvania Reserves.”
While attention at the Battle of Fredericksburg is focused on numerous Union army infantry charges in the face of CSA artillery fire on Marye’s heights and infantry rifles at the stone wall, many historians state that the key to the entire battle was the action downstream where PA General G. Meade’s Pennsylvania Reserves broke CSA General Stonewall Jackson’s line. Mr. Ernsberger has thoroughly researched and written the story recently published in 2012. He has a power point presentation and will bring many of his books to sell.
Anyone who is interested in the Civil War or joining the Civil War Round Table is invited to attend. For more information, contact Dale Benner at 814-355-5184.
